This statement can be attributed to Adela Flores-Brennan, Coalition Manager for the Protect Our Care Colorado Coalition:

The U.S. Senate, after an unprecedented, irresponsible and chaotic process that lacked transparency, finally failed to secure the votes needed to repeal the ACA. that would have undercut 1/6th of our economy and cut coverage from millions. Thankfully, for 600,000 Coloradans and at least 16 million Americans who would have lost health care under the various versions of repeal, this legislative and humanitarian disaster has been averted. This is a clear message to Republicans that cuts to the benefits of the ACA and Medicaid are off the table, and that fixes to the ACA should proceed in a bipartisan fashion that allows for public input and maximizes transparency.

This is a huge victory not only for the consumers who rely on the ACA and Medicaid, but for the tireless advocates and citizens who raised their voices loud and clear here in Colorado and around the country. Now we can move forward with the value that everyone should be able to get the care and coverage they need — period.

While we are disappointed that Senator Gardner voted repeatedly to undermine health care for so many Coloradans, we thank Senator Michael Bennet for his vote and efforts to protect the health care of Coloradans, and for his calls for bipartisan solutions to health care issues that improve our health care and move our state and our country forward. We also thank Governor Hickenlooper for reaching across the aisle to work with Governors around the country to oppose repeal legislation in favor of a more rational and bipartisan approach.
