De Percin Receives the Families USA Consumer Health Advocate of the Year Award

Washington, D.C.—Families USA, the national organization for health care consumers, today is presenting Dede de Percin, Executive Director of the Colorado Consumer Health Initiative, with the Consumer Health Advocate of the Year Award at the annual Families USA Health Action Conference.

The award, presented every year since 1998, recognizes outstanding contributions on behalf of our nation’s health care consumers. The award is being presented to de Percin for her ongoing efforts and her strong leadership to improve the quality of care and access to care for all Coloradans.

“Dede is a long-time friend and a real kindred spirit on the social issues that must be addressed,” Ron Pollack, Executive Director of Families USA, said today. “Today we celebrate her efforts in the battle for quality health care, but she has been a tireless combatant on a whole range of issues, including HIV/AIDS prevention, human rights, women’s reproductive/health issues, GLBT equality, transportation efficiency, energy sustainability, and anti-violence advocacy.

“It gives me a real ‘Rocky Mountain high’ to be able to honor Dede’s decades of work on these important issues.”

De Percin has over thirty years of involvement with nonprofit organizations at the local, state, and national levels. She has also served on numerous nonprofit boards at the local, state, and national levels. Since joining Colorado Consumer Health Initiative, she has been appointed to the Colorado Division of Insurance Consumer Council, the Health Facility Acquired Infections Advisory Committee and served as a consumer representative to the National Association of Insurance Commissioners.

Ms. de Percin is the recipient of numerous awards, including a National Energy Commendation from the Urban Consortium, a Community Advocate award from the Denver Domestic Violence Coordinating Council, the Business Woman of the Year from the Colorado Business Council, the “Seven Who Make a Difference” by the Jackson Hole Guide, and Outstanding Advocate Award from the American Diabetes Association. She was recently featured in 5280 Magazine as one of the city’s 18 “brightest and most outspoken leaders.”

Ms. de Percin graduated Cornell University, with a B.A. in History of Science, and Regis University with a Master of Nonprofit Management. Originally from Washington, DC she now calls Denver, Colorado home. She describes her free time activities as “mountain biking, kayaking, snowboarding, and chasing cats.”
