DENVER – Families USA has recognized Adam Fox, deputy director of the Colorado Consumer Health Initiative (CCHI), with its 2023 Health Justice Advocate of the Year for Health Care Value. Fox’s peers nominated him for the award due to his long-standing advocacy work and his many successful efforts that have positioned CCHI as a national leader and a force to be reckoned with, willing to take on the powerful and well-funded healthcare industry from Big Pharma to Big Insurance, and addressing provider pricing and billing abuses.

He will be officially recognized during Families USA’s January 27 Awards Luncheon as part of its 2023 Health Action Conference in Washington, DC.

“Adam has been a powerful voice in unveiling rampant hospital pricing abuses and surprise medical billing, on top of advancing Colorado’s public option,” said Frederick Isasi, Executive Director of Families USA. “His hard work as a thoughtful leader is helping create the blueprint to provide affordable and equitable health care in Colorado and nationwide.”

Fox has worked at CCHI for over 11 years. As deputy director, he oversees policy, communications and organizing to advance CCHI’s organizational and policy goals to make health and health care more equitable and affordable – including implementation efforts for the Prescription Drug Affordability Board, the Hospital Discounted Care Law and the Colorado Option, and expanding coverage for undocumented Coloradans through OmniSalud and other new programs.

“I am deeply honored and humbled to have been nominated and selected for this award by Families USA,” said Fox. “Advocacy work is a collective endeavor, and without the support and determination of many, our efforts to equitably improve health care value would not be possible. I am incredibly thankful that I have been able to work with and learn from many amazing colleagues, partners and allies in Colorado and across the country.”

Each year during its Health Action Conference, Families USA honors state and community leaders who are advancing social justice through health care advocacy. Awards represent the organization’s four focus areas: Health Equity, Health Care Value, Coverage, and People’s Experience.
