October 1st is finally here! Today was the first day that Coloradans could see their health insurance options on Connect for Health Colorado. Within the first three hours, over 1,300 accounts were created and nearly 34,000 individuals visited the website, www.connectforhealthco.com. People are excited about the new health care market!

As to be expected with any large system rollout, there have been glitches. Remember how hard it is to Great American Beer Festival tickets or Rockies-Red Sox World Series tickets? The thing to remember is that you are not going to be shut out of Connect for Health Colorado. The system is functioning and consumer questions are being answered quickly. CCHI staff has been exploring the website, browsing and comparing plans, and phoning the call center with questions we often get from consumers. the system will only continue to improve. Soon you will be able to search plans by providers and see how much financial assistance you will qualify for to save money every month.

There’s no need to rush through enrollment. This is like the beginning of the holiday shopping season. Think of today like the day after Thanksgiving, but your pants don’t feel as tight. You should carefully consider all your options and find the plan that’s right for you.  As long as you enroll and pay for insurance between now and December 15th, your coverage will start January 1, 2014.

The progress Colorado has made wouldn’t have been possible without the hard work of countless individuals. Our hats are off to Connect for Health staff, board members past and present, Health Care Policy and Financing, and diverse stakeholders through across Colorado.  Colorado is that much closer to all Coloradans being able to get the care they need when they need it.

Have you shopped or enrolled through Connect for Health Colorado? Share your story!
