Mateo is originally from Grand Junction, CO and graduated in 2019 from Colorado College with a B.A. in Political Science focused in the study of Comparative Politics. During his time at Colorado College, Mateo led the Native American Student Union in advocating for equitable treatment of Indigenous students as well as policies that affirmatively protect their rights on campus. He is Apache, Yaqui, and Tarahumara and now serves on the Board of Directors for Four Winds American Indian Council in Denver.
Before coming to CCHI, Mateo worked at the Bell Policy Center as a Public Interest Policy Fellow, where he assisted in coalition building, policy research, and advocacy. In his role as Communications Manager, Mateo is committed to advancing the consumer voice and ensuring that all stakeholders and impacted communities can meaningfully engage with CCHl’s work. In his free time, you can find Mateo volunteering in the Denver Metro Indigenous community and enjoying all that Colorado’s backcountry has to offer.
