Are you struggling to afford health insurance, facing large medical debt, uninsured or are a recipient of public programs? Or have you benefited from the Affordable Care Act?

You should be able to get the care you need to stay healthy and see a doctor when you need to -- without sudden unpredictable costs or burdens. If you share your story, we can help make your voice heard along with other Coloradans through our Power of One story bank.

There are different ways you can share your story:

•  Allow us to tell your story for you
•  Agree to speak to reporters when your story relates to media interest
•  Testify at a legislative hearing or talk to policymakers directly

Preparing your Story

Sharing your story does not require a large time commitment on your part. We will help you organize your thoughts, offer advice on effective public speaking skills and ensure that you are prepared enough to feel comfortable and effective. Also, you will be offered the full support of a staff that understands the challenges consumers face everyday while negotiating the challenges of the health care system. You always reserve the right to refuse to answer any question asked of you.

Safeguarding your story

To ensure your participation is always at a level you are comfortable with, we have set up the following guidelines.

1. Contact information will not be shared without your permission.
2. Use of your name is optional; your name will not be used without your permission.
3. Colorado Consumer Health initiative will ask for your permission before your story will become public.
4. For all public speaking engagements, a staff member or advocate of your choice will be present.
5. You will always be in control about the amount of personal information that will be shared.
