Hooray!  CCHI’s top priority legislative piece passed the Legislature this session!

Your hard work, letters, phone calls, and lobbying have paid off in a big way!  Thanks to your efforts, health insurance companies need permission from the Insurance Commissioner to raise rates and give good justification due the passage of House Bill 08-1389 (The FAIR Act).  This is a huge win for consumers, and places Colorado with 23 other states that have this prior approval system in place in their healthcare markets. This legislation was supported by 69 legislators in the House and Senate Chambers, more than 50 organizations that contributed volunteer hours to the campaign, 36 Capitol lobbyists (the finest in the state), 10 press conferences and field events, 5 Pizza and Beer Coalition work nights, and 2 Legislators (Representative Morgan Carroll and Senator Paula Sandoval) who are true consumer healthcare champions. On June 5^th we will applaud Governor Bill Ritter, Jr. for standing with consumers across the state to bring spiraling health premium costs under control by signing HB 08-1389 into law.
