Consumer Advocates Blast Republican House Budget that Decimates Health Care for Seniors, Children, and the Disabled to Pay for Tax Breaks for the Ultra-Wealthy
DENVER – Following this morning’s passage of the budget blueprint that decimates Medicaid, the Colorado Consumer Health Initiative released the following statement. This statement can be attributed to Deputy Director Adam Fox:
“Let’s be clear, every Colorado Republican in Congress just voted to terminate Medicaid for millions of Americans and threaten the stability of our healthcare facilities, clinics, and our economy. They are prioritizing tax breaks for the ultra-wealthy, their donors, and big corporations over the health and well-being of the 15-30% of Coloradans covered by Medicaid in their districts. The proposed $880 billion or more in cuts to Medicaid will strip coverage from hundreds of thousands of Coloradans and make people sicker, including people fighting cancer, older adults in nursing homes, people living with disabilities, veterans, children, and families. This does nothing to address high healthcare costs while it will push millions into medical crises and debt.”
Percent of population covered by Medicaid in Republican Districts, for reference:
-
CO-3 (Hurd) = 29.9%
-
CO-4 (Boebert) = 14.9%
-
CO-5 (Crank) = 22.4%
-
CO-8 (Evans) = 25.1%
