Coloradans should be able to get the care they need when they need it without unpredictable costs or barriers. Working together, we can move Colorado closer to this common sense goal.

CCHI is an active supporter of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) because it will increase access to affordable healthcare for millions of Americans and hundreds of thousands of Coloradans.  Our current priority is the implementation of the ACA’s provisions in Colorado.  As experts in private health insurance, we focus our efforts on market reforms, including the creation of exchanges, to ensure Coloradans can access the care they need when they need it.

Health Benefit Exchanges:  With the passage of SB 200 in 2010, Colorado created the framework for a health benefits exchange, or marketplace, through which small businesses, individuals, and families can access quality, affordable insurance.  Under federal law, the Colorado Health Benefit Exchange must be open for business by January 1, 2014.  CCHI is actively engaged in tracking all aspects of the Exchange to ensure that it is fully transparent and accountable to its ultimate users.  We play a vital role in ensuring our members are aware of, and can weigh in on, discussions and decisions of the Colorado Health Benefits Exchange Board, its subcommittees and advisory groups.  Our goal is to ensure that the consumer perspective is foremost in Exchange policy.

Private Market Reforms:  CCHI is committed to ensuring that consumers are not marginalized in the insurance market.  To this end, we advocate for policies that ensure transparency, require justification of rate increases, protect consumers and eliminate discrimination against consumers.

Health Care Access though Public Programs and Projects: Although CCHI’s focus is on the private market, we also work with our members and partners to ensure seamless integration of public and private insurance programs.

In addition to these ACA implementation efforts, CCHI continues to pay close attention to payment reform, hospital charity care policies and fiscal reform.
